Henry took part in the Siege of Caerlaverock in July 1300. His brother Thomas was involved in several rebellions against King Edward II, and was executed and his lands were confiscated in 1322. Henry had to petition the king for the return of the lands and titles. Henry was involved in the ousting of King Edward II, and captured him at Neath in South Wales and imprisoned him at Kenilworth Castle. He became a chief advisor to Edward III, and upon the young king’s accession in 1330, helped him remove Roger Mortimer; having him declared a traitor and executed. About this same time he went blind.
