A deed shows that Berry bought 74 acres of land in Cumberland County, North Carolina, on December 5, 1818, from Rhody Hicks for $85. This land was described as beginning at Blackjack Prince's corner between Hicks and Nancy Edwards to Williford's line, to Morgan's line, to Carpenter's line, to the beginning. The witnesses were David Stewart, Richard Blalock and Nathan Prince. Rhody Hicks signed the deed by making her mark.
