Erard II, Count of Brienne
, d. 8 February 1191 in Acre, Israel, cause of death was the Siege of AcreFather: Gautier II, Count of Brienne
Mother: Adéle of Soissons
At the beginning of the Siege of Acre the Crusaders believed they had won and scattered to plunder, but Saladin rallied and attacked the center of the Christian forces with very little resistance. The Crusader front descended into chaos and they began to flee. Erard's brother André, though gravely injured, tried to stop them but was thrown from his horse. All of his companions, including Erard, left him to die. 7000 Crusaders died during the Siege of Acre, which lasted almost two years, including Erard who died sixteen months after his brother.Spouse: Agnes de Montfaucon, d. aft. 1186
Father: Amadeus II of Montfaucon
Mother: Beatrice of Grandson-Joinville
Married
Children:
Gautier II, Count of Brienne
We have both children listed as the children of Adéle of Soissons, but André is said to be the son of Gautier's second wife, so his mother may be Humbeline. That would also mean Erard is older. We simply guessed at his being younger based on his behavior during the Siege of Acre.Spouse: Adéle of Soissons
Father: Jean de Soissons
Mother: Aveline de Pierrefonds
Married
Children:
Amadeus II of Montfaucon
Father: Richard II of Montfaucon
Mother: Sophie of Montbéliard
He was Count of Montbéliard and Lord of Montfaucon. Amadeus married Beatrice of Grandson-Joinville and Osilie of Faucogney, but it is unclear which is the mother of the children. As Beatrice is listed as the mother of Agnes, she may be the mother of all three.

William of Tyre, who knew Baldwin personally, described him thus: "…He was taller than the average man, but his limbs were so well proportioned to his height that no feature seemed out of harmony with the whole. His features were comely and refined, his complexion florid, a proof of innate strength… His eyes were of medium size, rather prominent and sparkling. He had straight yellowish hair and wore a rather full beard on cheeks and chin. He was of somewhat full habit, although he could not be called fleshy like his brother or spare like his mother…"
